All about Ocean Explorers

The Oldest dive shop in St Maarten is owned and operated by longtime resident LeRoy French. With over 40 years experience in the diving field all efforts have been put into maintaining a high standard of operation in the shop. All dive trips and lessons are personally supervised and safety is the number one thought in mind. The shop is located on a quiet beach at Simpson Bay, with easy parking, and is stocked with first class quality equipment, for rent or for sale at reasonable prices.

Dive sites are selected the day of the dive and are tailored to the experience of the divers participating. The 26' Robalo dive boat "Ocean Explorer" is powered by twin 150hp engines and affords a smooth ride to the sites. A maximum of 10 divers per trip are taken, so the groups are small. The shop has been apppointed a "NAUI DREAM RESORT" and an "International PADI Resort". The licensing of divers is an ongoing activity. A diver must have a Certification Card to participate on dives. If not a 2 hour resort course must be taken. Refresher courses are available for those who need practice prior to going out.

LeRoy has been a black belt in Tae Kwon Do since 1990 and is helping teach at the local school. LeRoy is an expert video and still photographer and has produced some excellent DVD's which are available for sale. There is an article on one of his adventures in the latest book "The Devils Teeth", by Susan Casey. Also the beautiful book entitled "Silver Seas", by Ernest Brooks tells of his photographic exploits. He is always available to help with photographic questions and problems. As his island paradise grows the shop still remains small and very personal.
